Lip Lift
Lip lift surgery, or shortly Lip Lift, is a procedure that is targeted to people who are unhappy with the length of their upper lip area. If the length of the upper lip area deteriorates the face ratio of the patient, a solution is provided with this procedure. It covers the area between the columella base and the upper border of the upper lip. Sagging upper lip is generally a problem faced by elderly individuals. In some people, the long upper lip is also caused by structural reasons. The aim of the surgery is to bring the distance between the nose and the upper lip to around 12-15 mm.
What are the steps in a Lip Lift procedure?
The incision is placed in the natural crease that exists between the nose and the lip. The area of skin within the bullhorn incision is removed, lifted and edges sutured together in the deep layers of the skin to reduce visibility of the suture line. Only in this way can the shape of the lip be preserved. It is important that the skin edges are carefully aligned.
A scar remains on the nasal base, but this scar does not bother, it is not obvious. Sometimes skin removal from the lip line may be needed. This procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, it takes about 1 hour. After the operation, the patient’s wound should be dressed for 1 day. Then, eye ointment is used for that area.
A slight swelling occurs after the procedure. But this disappears within 3 days. It is useful to apply a cold compress (ice massage) to the upper lip. Full recovery may take up to 1 year. It does not restrict lip movements, does not cause any changes.
The patient should clean the incisions according to the doctor’s recommendations and take care to keep his lips moisturized. When brushing teeth, the patient should use a small toothbrush and be gentle. In addition, the patient should avoid opening his mouth too much, sleeping on the stomach and smoking and strenuous exercise for a few weeks.
Results of Lip Lift Surgery
- Changes the proportion of the lower lip and upper lip.
- Provides an increased red show.
- Pulls the vermillion border of the upper lip up.
- Shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip.
Non-Surgical Lip Lift
This technique is known as NsLL (Non-surgical lip lift). The distance between the lip and the nasal base is shortened by filling or filler. Lip filling also helps shorten this distance. During the procedure, an injection material is applied to the inner fibres of the lip muscle and thus the upper fibres of this bagel-shaped muscle are contracted. The injection is applied at low dose. It is effective in turning the upper lip upwards and clarifying the visible part. However, this procedure may cause asymmetry in the upper lip movements or stop the movements (dummy lip appearance). At this point, the experience of the surgeon is very important.
