Breast Lift

Breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is an aesthetic operation. If the areolas have descended to the level of the breast fold line, this can be regarded as mild breast sagging. If the areola is below this line, it is understood that the sagging is at advanced level. The situation is more serious if the areolas are pointing straight down. The solution to this problem is breast lift surgery.

Sagging breasts can be caused by various factors such as breastfeeding and aging. Surgical procedure is the only way to recover sagging breasts. It is not possible to lift the breasts with sports. Breast lift surgery shapes the breast tissue, keeps the breast higher and the skin on breasts more taut.

What are the Steps for Breast Lift Procedure?

If this procedure is performed by an experienced surgeon, sagging breasts can completely be removed. However, a scar remains in the area where the areola meets the skin. This scar extends under the breast. In some techniques, this scar under the bottom part is not seen.

The surgical procedure is performed under the general anaesthesia. The duration of the operation varies between 2-5 hours. If the sagging of the breast is not excessive, an implant can be placed under the breast. If the patient has an intense sagging, the excess skin is removed. Thus, a more aesthetic and upright appearance is obtained. If excessive sagging has occurred and there are not enough mammary glands, breast lift operation is performed with implant support.

Recovery Process After Breast Lift Surgery

  • Patients who have breast lift surgery are discharged 1 day after the operation and are asked to come for regular check-ups. It is normal to feel slight pain.
  • Sutures are removed after 1 week or within 12 days at the latest.
  • Patients may experience problems such as oedema and tension for a few weeks after surgery. Sometimes bruising may occur. However, these are temporary problems.
  • A corset with a special bra should be used for 6 weeks. This helps the breast to recover better and to achieve the expected result.
  • During this period, patients are expected to avoid excessive exercise.
  • If you wonder whether those who have a breast lift surgery can breastfeed, you should know that this varies according to the degree of sagging and the chosen technique. If the areola is not separated from the underlying breast tissue, the milk ducts will not be damaged. However, if the patient experiences intense sagging and has very large breasts, the lactation function may be waived. However, the patient is informed and his consent is sought before this procedure.
  • Weight gain or pregnancy after the breast lift surgery may cause breasts to sag again.
