Breast Augmentation with Implant
The breast implant gives patients lifted and voluminous breasts. Silicone implants are often used for the permanent enlargement of small breasts. Because these implants are more similar to breast tissue compared to different types of implants. It is placed on or under the muscle by making small incisions. The scars will remain at the natural folds of the chest (above the bra line). Therefore, it will not be visible when viewed from the front. If the patient starts to use silicone cream regularly 2 weeks after the surgery, this scar will fade and its prominence will decrease.
If the breast deformity or volume loss is caused by pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss, the desired appearance cannot be achieved only with breast augmentation procedure. For this purpose, breast lift procedures should be applied together with the implant placement process.
How is a Breast Implant Determined?
When deciding on the shape of the breast implant, the patient’s body structure, skin characteristics, the shape of the rib cage and personal preferences are taken into consideration. Round and teardrop implants are mostly preferred.
What are the Steps for a Breast Implant?
It is very important to achieve a natural appearance in breast implant application. The breasts should be able to move in line with the patient’s bodily movements. If the firmness of breasts does not change in case of bending, or it remains as it is when the patient is standing, this creates an artificial appearance.
Breast implant placement operation takes approx. 45 minutes to 1.5 hours and is usually performed under general anaesthesia. Implants are placed under the fascia (under the chest muscle membrane), under the chest muscle, or under the breast tissue. Under which layer the implant will be placed is determined depending on the amount of breast tissue. However, the breast implant is always placed under the breast, not inside. Thus, it is ensured that the implant does not prevent the patient from breastfeeding after giving birth.
The implant should sit completely on the base of the breast and should not protrude. Otherwise, the breast will grow towards the armpit of the patient and the natural appearance will deteriorate. The implant does not harm the breast tissue. However, if a larger implant is placed, the breast tissue on the implant will be under pressure and cause thinning of the tissue. It is possible to prevent this situation by using an implant of appropriate volume.
An incision of 4-5 cm is made under the breast and the implant is placed in the designated area. The patient’s wound does not need a dress. The patient is asked to stay in the hospital for one night. The next day, a sports bra is put on. It is recommended to use non-wired bras or sports bras for 6 weeks. It is necessary to wait 6 weeks before returning to the routine exercise program. However, sports that do not require the use of arms can be started after 10 days.
